WHAT IS BIKEFEST IRELAND?

‘There’s everything from a bike show to a dog show…’

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

Held annually, on the first weekend of June, Bikefest Ireland causes a usually quiet, picturesque corner of south west Ireland to be invaded by every manner of two-wheeled machine. The population of Killarney swells as around 50,000 attend the event over the course of the weekend.

Based on the outskirts of town, the Bikefest Village is free to enter. With bands playing throughout the day and well into the night, there’s a real buzz about the place. With everything from a bike show to a dog show, to demo rides of the latest Harley-davidson fleet there’s loads to keep everyone busy.

Taking part in one of the organised rideouts is a great way to see the local area, but with so many routes to explore it’s just as much fun to head out unaccompanied and explore by yourself.

Killarney is just a few miles from the Wild Atlantic Way, a 1500-mile signed coastal route, which takes in some dramatic and near-deserted roads (check out ‘My Special Ride’ on page 40).

One of the highlights of the event is the Sunday Parade, the town comes to a standstill as locals line the route to watch 1500 bikers tour the streets.

Event chair Breffni Ingerton said “Killarney welcomes this festival with open arms. This is perhaps best demonstrated by the crowds that line the streets for the parade.”

It is well worth a visit and you’ll be sure to enjoy the craic.
