PEAKING IN THE PEAKS
Macclesfield to Holmfirth
Distance 40 miles Why you should ride it If you want to know why the Peak District is so popular with riders, then just follow this route. Starting at Macclesfield you take the infamous Cat & Fiddle pass (the A537) towards Buxton, which is a brilliant road to ride but one that is fairly heavily enforced with speed cameras and traffic police so keep your speed down. Once at Buxton the A5004 winds you towards Whaley Bridge before the A624 and A6024 take you to Holmfirth. These two roads are absolutely wonderful to ride as well as challenging, especially on the run down to Holme so be careful and enjoy the views, not the speed. Fancy a detour? Nip into Buxton for a bite to eat and wander around.
