On my way into work the other day, I saw a guy out riding in what looked like well-ventilated textile trousers. As I’ve been melting at times in heavy traffic recently, I’m very curious about kit that will keep me cool and safe. Mike Norris, Twickenham

Answered by Keith Roissetter, Infinity Motorcycles Vented textile trousers are a popular choice for the summer as they offer much more protection than conventional jeans, but allow more airflow. Spada produce their Air Pro 2 model which has knee and hip armour along with a connecting zip to join to a jacket. The Alpinestars A10 Air Flo pants have a similar spec but don’t come with the hip armour although they do have Velcro for sliders. The Dainese Drake Super Airs have proved popular as they connect to Dainese jackets. For the serious tourer, the Rukka Orivesi have loads of features including a removable Gore-tex liner.
