Waterproof/ breathable linings

Most textile jackets and trousers at this price point will come with a fixed breathable membrane meaning that rain will penetrate the outermost layer of the suit but be prevented from reaching your skin by the membrane beneath. It acts like a one-way valve, keeping rain out but letting sweat-related moisture escape.

Thermal lining

Most suits will come with a thermal inner jacket that can be zipped in or out depending on the conditions. Some top-spec suits will feature special temperature-regulating fabrics such as Outlast.

A true all-season suit will also feature zipped vents that you can open to let fresh air flow through the garment – ideal for hot conditions. In a good suit these vents will feature waterproof zips to help prevent water getting into them.

Get the right fit

Many manufacturers will offer trousers in a choice of waist sizes and leg lengths, and offer comfort-enhancing features such as Velcro adjusters and stretch panels.
