Alex Lowes and his Pata Yamaha teammate Michael van der Mark arrived at Laguna hoping to continue their improving pace, but the weekend turned into a disaster with best results of ninth and eighth respectively.

Lowes said: “We are struggling with the setting on the bike and we have not made any steps forward. I just really do not know what is happening at the front. I had no warning before crashing in race one, no feeling.

“It is hard to feel it is my fault because I did not do anything different from before, which is a shame. It means we

are not understanding the limits of the bike, so we need to work on that. There are some tracks that suit the bike and some tracks where from the first session we know we are going to struggle – so we need to understand why that is and work on improving.”
