Elias rules Laguna
A full Motoamerica race weekend took place alongside the World Superbike races at Laguna, with an old Motogp and WSB rider – Toni Elias – winning each domestic-series superbike race on a Yoshimura Suzuki.
Rea told MCN: “Now we can evaluate the first part of the year and get refreshed for the final push. Nothing changes in my approach, but now Tom is my closest rival so now we need to pay more attention to what he is doing. Nothing needs to change from weekend to weekend. We will just do our thing and the feeling I have with the ZX-10RR is really good. Hopefully we can make some small steps to give me some extra feeling on the front in our next test in Lausitzring. What we really need is an upgrade in our engine spec but you can’t click your fingers and make that happen. The guys at Kawasaki Japan are working hard on that but it is not something that is just going to arrive and suddenly give us a lot more acceleration.
“I want to enjoy the last part of the year and Portimao is one of my favourites and so is Magny-cours. I want to target these next three races to be as strong as possible and home-in on the ultimate target in the last few races. Last year I had such an incredible start to the year but this year we have had some difficult races already. But I think this year how we got everything together is better because we got a handle on our base setting in winter testing.”
