WSB’S rule revolution
Dorna chief Carmelo Ezpeleta has put a grenade under the WSB paddock, saying the series should go to a stock format. But speaking exclusively to MCN at Laguna, WSB series director Dani Carrera, said Ezpeleta wasn’t being completely literal.
“When he was having conversations with the representatives of the manufacturers, he asked them if they’d go in this stock direction – but to go completely stock is impossible. With these comments it is giving a clear direction where we want to go. The final line will be decided in the following months with all the people involved in this paddock.”
Carrera said the intention is to take the championship closer to its production roots and help differentiate it from the world of Motogp and its prototype machines.
He said: “This is the main asset of our championship - to be as close as possible to the real products that the fans that follow the championships are using on the road.
“Also the main reason of that is to provide a better sport, better competition, better parity because at the end of the day our intention is to increase the impact of the championship, increase the partnerships, allow the teams to have better sponsors.”
He said it is difficult for the series to grow its grids and influence at the moment because it is so challenging for smaller teams and sponsors to get to the front.
