Coward’s fellow Yorkshireman, James Cowton enjoyed an impressive 2017 Southern 100. A new lap record in the 650cc class was backed up by top placings in the 600cc races that saw him mixing it with, and beating, the likes of Dean Harrison and Michael Dunlop. The 25-year- old has joined the experienced Northern Ireland based Mcadoo Kawasaki team for 2017.
He said: “This is my seventh season of racing and getting into a better team with better bikes makes so much difference.”
Cowton has served his roads apprenticeship at Oliver’s Mount and on the roads of the small Irish meetings. He is already a regular TT competitor and finished on the podium in the 2014 Lightweight race.
The Mcadoo family enjoy a huge road racing history, having backed riders like Joey Dunlop, Alan Irwin, Paul Cranston, Ryan Farquhar, Ian Hutchinson, Conor Cummins and Michael Dunlop over the past 30 years.
Cowton added: “This year I will have as good a stocker as Dean Harrison and we proved with the twin today that we have a similar speed to Ivan Lintin’s bike in that class. Anything is possible now.”
Cowton is now a regular front-runner
