Can you really call the XSR900 a retro? At the end of the day does it really matter as if you are after a retro-styled (if you squint) bike that is an absolute hoot to ride then look no further. The triple is a real barnstormer and the chassis backs it up with agility and precision. The styling isn’t great, but if you think of it as a thoroughly modern retro and concentrate on its performance you won’t care what it looks like!

Like its bigger brother, it is hard to really call the XSR700 a proper retro. But this bike will win you over with its performance, not its looks. The parallel twin punches obscenely above its weight and as well as being friendly and easy-going, it can quickly be stirred into playing the fool. The suspension is basic and wobbly, but the motor is so good you quickly forgive it this small indiscretion.
