Great for Almost anything A real all-rounder. If you want to change lots go pre-2006 when they had carbs but definitely go pre-2011 as the canbus system makes customising tough.

Great for Hardtail chops The ‘ Ironhead’ sportster doesn’t have the kudos of the big-twins from the time, so they’re a lot cheaper and the performance difference isn’t huge. Expect to pay £2000-£4000
Great for Street trackers One of the first bikes to take the custom world by storm, the BMWS have gone up in value now but they’re simple to work on and the engines are capable of huge miles. Expect to pay £1000-£3000
Great for Bobbers Some call it the greatest Triumph ever made and the engine is a peach. If you want to get in deep, the crank can be rephrased to 270 giving it a V-twin rumble. Expect to pay £2000-£4500
