Cumbrian gravel gripe

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

Beware; the Cumbrian Highway Department have been resurfacing parts of the Hartside Pass route (A686). Using the cheaper option, with little regard for the safety of road users, they have poured in tar and scattered some gravel and called it job done. The resulting piles of loose gravel are a danger to car drivers, nevermind the bikers and coast-to-coast cyclists. To absolve themselves of blame there is a scattering of signage advising of loose chippings and skid risk with an advisory 20mph – health & safety box ticked. Alexander Liddle, email
