Smaller V-twins will rumble on
So is this the end of Ducati V-twins? In short – no. The flagship superbike will be a V4, but the recently-released £11,495 Supersport is at the beginning of its lifecycle, and the need for a model to fill the gap between it and the new V4 pretty much guarantees that the £13,795 959 Panigale will continue. The 959 is Euro4 friendly so it’s likely to live on for at least two more years. A bigcapacity Panigale is not expected to be built beyond 2018.
Will we have a Monster R, middleweight superbike, or Multistrada boasting a V4 in the future? It certainly seems likely – but not imminent.
