American firm unveils hot new 2018 models
Indian Motorcycles have revealed a mass of 2018 model updates and three all-new models: the Scout Bobber, Roadmaster Elite and Springfield Dark Horse. The American firm has been revitalised over the last few years and is leaning heavily on its heritage that stretches back further than HarleyDavidson’s,
A nip and tuck
Beyond the three range additions are a smattering of updates to keep the range fresh. The Scout now comes as standard with a pillion seat and pillion footpegs. The telescopic front forks have been replaced by cartridge forks, and it gets Pirelli tyres. There’ll be two new colours, too (Metallic Jade and a Willow Green/ivory Cream).
The Chief Classic gets whitewall tyres, wire spoked wheels and chrome hand controls, and will be available only in Burgundy Metallic, while the Chief Vintage has black leather saddlebags and matching seat.
The Chieftain comes in just one colour scheme for 2018 (Steel Gray) and now has open mudguards instead of valanced ones, along with a 19in blacked-out wheel, while the Chieftain Dark Horse now gets Ridecommand as standard, along with the 19in 10-spoke wheel and an open mudguard.
Colour me good
There’s a host of colour additions and revisions. The Scout Sixty remains the same for 2018 but will come in two additional new colour schemes: Polished Bronze and Thunder Black/titanium Metallic. The Springfield comes in an extra (third) colour– Metallic Jade over Thunder Black with Silver pinstripe. The Chief is only available in Steel Gray, while a Chief Dark Horse is – you guessed it – a blacked-out version.
The Chieftain Limited now comes in four extra colourschemes with two of these featuring striped graphics on the fairing and the saddlebags. The burgundy Roadmaster gets a tan seat, while the other three versions all have black seats. There are two new two-tone colour schemes, too. And, finally, the Roadmaster Classic is now available in Indian Motorcycle Red and Willow Green/ivory Cream.
Scout Bobber is the only bike with a confirmed price tag – it’s available later this year, at £11,299
