It can be hard for a home- grown British race fan to get their heads around the Suzuka 8-Hour event, for one major reason – the sheer lunacy of it.

Tens of thousands of rabidly passionate fans, a culture totally alien to what we are used to in the West, plus some of the world’s fastest racers battling in the dark make it a race meeting that needs to be seen to be believed.

We’ve picked a few highlights that give you an idea of how crazy the place really is...

You don’t pick your seat at Suzuka based on which rider you’re cheering on but which factory – leading to incredible displays like this! Leon Haslam tucks into a lunch far removed from what you’re going to find in a burger van at Cadwell Park Meet Patrick

There’s something for all ages at the 8- Hour – something helped by the circuit’s on-site theme park, water park, plus multiple karting and minimoto tracks No, you’re not looking at a cartoon... even the grid girl costumes at Suzuka are far more elaborate than anything you’d see at any race outside of Japan
