NORTON PLANNED TO ENTER 500s
Norton had their eyes on entering 500GPS with their rotary racer. At the time, though, they were handicapped by the FIM’S 1.7:1 equivalency formula for piston and rotary engines, meaning that the bike would be 294cc. Two years later, the Norton did race at the Brit GP in the hands of Ron Haslam (pictured) – as a 588cc bike. He finished 12th.
