MOSSEY SET TO MISS CADWELL
Luke Mossey is set to miss the next MCE BSB round at Cadwell Park after a free practice crash at Thruxton saw him side-lined with injuries.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider, who sat second in the series standings ahead of this weekend, clipped the grass on the exit of the final turn in Saturday’s final free practice, launching him from his ZX-10RR. He and the bike then flew down the start finish straight before hitting the ground near turn one, where he became tangled in the machine.
The session was immediately stopped and Mossey, who was conscious, was tended to by trackside medics. He was taken to hospital where it was later confirmed he’d sustained a stable fracture to his L2 vertebrae. While it’s not known how long Mossey will be out of action, team owner Pete Extance confirmed to MCN it’s highly unlikely he’ll be racing at Cadwell in two weeks’ time.
Mossey’s absence, combined with a tough weekend for Haslam and Byrne, ignited the fight for the final Showdown spots with Peter Hickman elevated to third in the standings while the battle for the final two spots really heats up.
Josh Brookes and Jason O’halloran are currently tied on points in the final two spots and with Christian Iddon, who finished fifth and fourth this weekend, and Jake Dixon enjoying strong outings. The four riders fighting for the final two spots are split by just 20 points with two rounds remaining before the Showdown.
