EXPERT OPINION Small BSB teams shine

Motorcycle News (UK) - - SPORT -

Hickman’s race two win gave the Smiths BMW team their first taste of MCE British Superbike glory on the same day that Josh Brookes rewarded the Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha team with their first visit to the top step.

Both teams are small, independent outfits with little or no support from the manufacturers they represent and neither had enjoyed much success in the series prior to this year.

These victories, along with Jake Dixon’s Knockhill double and double rostrum at Thruxton, go to show just how level the playing field is in British Superbikes as smaller, privateer teams put themselves into championship contention alongside the bigger, manufacturer-backed efforts such as Be Wiser Ducati and JG Speedfit Kawasaki.

It is this parity that gives BSB its status as the world’s premier domestic motorcycle racing series and other championships could learn a lot from the way in which things are run.
