Pit crash prompts safety concerns

Motorcycle News (UK) - - SPORT -

A collision between Aleix Espargaró and Andrea Iannone during Sunday’s chaotic flag-to-flag pit stops at Brno has prompted a discussion about the dangers associated with having up to 25 Motogp machines diving in and out of pit lane at the same time.

The crash happened when Espargaró’s Aprilia crew released him on his second bike into pit lane, failing to see Iannone swooping into his own garage thanks to the position of other machines blocking their line of sight. Iannone collided with the Aprilia, falling from his own bike and knocking over both a number of crew and his team-mate Alex Rins’ second GSX-RR.

The Spaniard held his hands up after the crash and admitted that the blame laid firmly with him and his Aprilia crew, apologising to Iannone
