hat’s wrong with WSB?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

The leading team [Kawasaki] doesn’t shell out €50m on Motogp, so they pour funds into the superbike project. The other teams out there are hedging their bets, sharing out a racing budget – Yamaha is the ideal example. The GP team have spent heavily, trying to develop the M1 for two very different riders, and the company seem reluctant to spend much on a series they consider gives little back in sales or development.

However, watching the Suzuka 8-Hour it’s clear the R1 is a worldbeater. With an extra push it could easily take on the green machines. Then, the series would become more popular, TV firms would get involved and we’d see Rea v Lowes. What a show! The future of WSB lays in the teams’ hands. A three-way title fight would draw the world back in, and I believe Yamaha could reignite the series. Ken Stretu, email
