‘He has set many people on course for a lifelong love of riding’
London legend Chris Salt has run Docklands Riders for over 20 years
Riding opportunities for London kids are few and far between, especially legal ones. Docklands Riders was set up to combat these issues, and has grown considerably under the tutelage of Chris Salt.
Chris has been an ACU coach for 23 years and has over 26 years of enduro race experience. He runs weekly classes at the track for people of all ages and abilities and it’s regularly packed out as the track is the only off-road facility in London that offers both MX and Enduro training and practice.
As well as teaching young adults to ride, Chris also runs a Sunday club for kids as young as six, giving them the chance to ride in a safe and structured training environment as they take their first steps on a Yamaha PW50.
On top of the riding coaching, Chris also runs weekly mechanics courses for disaffected young people from the local schools, which gives youngsters the chance to learn something academic and vocational in a less formal environment. The courses are accredited and he’s helped many people gain the vital skills required to move on to full-time work in the motor trade.
His friend, Max Hills, who nominated Chris as a biking hero said: “He’s an all-round good guy whose enthusiasm for motorcycles always rubs off on all those he tutors. He has set many people on course for a new two-wheeled adventure and lifelong love of riding.”
