Terry Rymer took Britain’s first podium in the World Superbike series in the sizzling heat at Estoril in Portugal. He followed that up in 1989 with a win – again a landmark victory for a Brit, but it took until 1994 for a British rider to take the crown when Carl Fogarty began his dominance of the series. Since then Neil Hodgson (once), James Toseland (twice), Tom Sykes (once) and Jonathan Rea (twice) have all taken WSB titles for Britain.
