SURTEES BIKES AT CLASSIC BIKE LIVE
Classic Bike Live will soon open its doors at The East of England Arena over the weekend of October 28-29. The latest addition to the attractions is a special display honouring the late, great John Surtees.
The Surtees Foundation are bringing six machines from Surtees’ collection to the event. There’s a 1933 Jap-engined Excelsior B14, an example of the model on which the young Surtees enjoyed his solo racing debut in a grass track meeting near Luton in 1949, and a Vincent Grey Flash built using some of the parts from the Vincent he rode during his debut road racing season, having started work as an apprentice at the Vincent factory in 1950.
Then there’s a special Vincent Black Lightning built using a 1953 race engine in 1980, an MV Agusta 500cc four-cylinder machine Surtees rode during the 1960 season, a Norton F Type – the one he was to have ridden in ’55 before Norton disbanded their race team – and a Triumph Tiger 70 of the type he used to make his road racing debut in 1950.
Tickets are available in advance for £9 from www. classicbikelive.co.uk
