Brilliant reasons to ride this week

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

1 Have a blast on the beach

Where Weston-super-mare, Somerset When Friday-sunday, Oct 13-15 Entry From £20 Info www.rhlactivi

The Weston Beach Race has been bringing madness to the Somerset seafront for over 30 years. The race pitches amateurs against professionals from all over the world on a rollercoaster sandtrack that causes crashes and chaos for hours on end. We say Weston Beach Race is rapidly joining a long list of quirky British traditions such as Cooper’s Hill Cheese-rolling in Gloucester or Morris dancing. If you’ve never been it’s well worth watching someone battling with a beached bike atop a small dune. Q DON’T MISS MCN’S picture special next week.

2 BSB’S triple header

Where Brands Hatch GP, Kent When Friday-sunday, October 13-15 Entry From £27 Info www.britishsuper

The final round of the 2017 MCE BSB Championship heads to Brands Hatch for the decider. With Leon Haslam 32 points ahead of Josh Brookes and 33 ahead of Shane Byrne you might think it’s a done deal, but with three races and changeable weather, it’s not necessarily done and dusted yet. We say The BSB season has been wild this year, with 10 different race winners and this wide open racing looks set to continue at Brands. The 2.4-mile GP track has a lot more to offer than the Indy circuit too, so this weekend could well go down in history.

3 Oldies but goodies

Where Staffordshire County Showground When Saturday-sunday, October 14-15 Entry £12 Info www.clas

The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show keeps on growing and now welcomes more than 30,000 visitors and over 900 traders. We say The show covering everything from little air-cooled Triumphs to firebreathing, analogue sportsbikes so has something for everyone.

4 Ryka’s Café

Where Box Hill, Surrey When Every Wednesday Entry Free Info

As the nights draw in and the weather turns, suddenly those roads and racetracks don’t seem quite so appealing. But fear not, for Ryka’s Café is open year round and hosts a bike meet every Wednesday (although there are bikers there most days). We say If the cooling weather has you thinking of other pursuits, nestled as it is in the Surrey Hills, Ryka’s is in the perfect location for green laning.

5 Grab some late-season track thrills

Where Cadwell Park When Saturday, October 14 Entry £109 Info www.msvtrack

MSV are running a sessioned trackday at Cadwell Park, which means the riders are sent out for seven 20-minute sessions. There are three groups on track (Novice, Intermediate and Advanced) and there are coaches on hand for those looking to progress. We say Considered one of the most challenging but exciting circuits in the country, Cadwell Park is a firm favourite for riders. The natural ups and downs of the Lincolnshire circuit, and not forgetting the infamous mountain, seal it.

6 So you think you’re fast, eh?

Where Santa Pod Raceway, Podington, Beds When Saturday, October 14, 9.30am– 8pm Entry From £8 Info

In its purest sense Run What Ya Brung is the cheapest and easiest way of seeing how much of your bike is just show and how much is pure go. The Saturday Night Special is one of the last meets of the year and running so late gives you plenty of chance to get out there. We say Forget what you know about drag racing because RWYB events are for everyone. You don’t need a race licence or a bike that runs on jet fuel. You can just turn up on your stocker and race against other people on similar bikes.

7 Want sauce with that?

Where The Shuttleworth Collection, Bedfordshire When October Entry Free Info www.shuttle

It’s not often we need an excuse to get out and ride but as the temperature begins to dip, it becomes less tempting. Then Shuttleworth come along and offer a Full English breakfast and a hot drink for just £6.95. We say It’s not just breakfast of course, the deal also includes burgers, fish and chips plus Sunday roasts, so if they’re a bit far away to get to in time for breakfast, you can head out for a ride and catch them on the way back in.
