‘And if my wife is reading, yes they all feel different’

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

After 14 years and 75,000km I recently sold my 2003 Daytona 955i. The stablemates are a 2007 Daytona 675 and a 2008 Street Triple. Both trouble-free following the reg/ rec recall. The D955 was replaced with a 2011 Speed Triple. All three are fitted with high-level Arrows mapped with TUNEECU on my laptop. My wife asked me why I had to have three bikes and if I noticed any difference when riding them. I gave the question some thought: The D675 is a fast, nimble, supersport that handles with extreme precision while the Speed is a big powerful naked with more torque than a ladies’ hair salon and brakes like it was designed to plug and play with lunacy. As for the Street, it simply raises two fingers to the other two. Perfect! Paul Turner, Barcelona

Nordic inspiration

I’d like to take this opportunity to praise Richard Newland for his inspirational ‘Nordic Nirvana’ feature. It’s long been our ambition to take that very route to Nordkapp and we’ve read many travel reports in preparation but none have inspired us like Richard’s heart-felt appreciation of beautiful Norway put into words. We REALLY have to do it now! Brian & Debbie Cook, Derby

Big news for shorties

I have to applaud Triumph for making the Street Triple R available in a reasonable seat height – something the other manufacturers fail to do. I am 73 and have been riding since I was 16 but have watched as motorcycles have gradually become larger and larger, to the extent that I now ride a combination. No worries about dropping the bugger at the lights now! With all our technology now, someone should fit a servo-assisted cam within the swingarm pivot, to lower the bike when coming to a standstill. Hats off to Adam Child for road testing the bikes he does, seeing as we are both the same size. Richard Cook, email

Top racing, bad facilities

I’m happy to pay £80 for the once-ina-decade Motocross of Nations, but if I’m going to pay Motogp level prices I expect facilities that amount to more than excrement-covered chemical toilets. I will be back next time but the chance of me persuading my girlfriend to return are between nought and zero. Gerard Moore, email

Free parking up north

Despite what it says on parking meters, bike parking in council-controlled areas in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey is free. I have asked the council why this isn’t made clear and await their reply. Tom Davy, email
