Öhlins suspension front and rear Titanium Akrapovic silencers Öhlins adjustable steering damper It’s funny how a few choice parts can elevate a bike from being rather nice, to really rather special – and this new 959 Panigale Corse is definitely the latter.

The beautiful paintjob makes it instantly identifiable, then you notice the flashes of gold from the suspension, and the beguiling twin Akrapovic titanium silencers gracefully sliding up the righthand side.

The Öhlins treatment comprises a TTX46 rear shock that sits horizontally on the left of the bike, with the fat adjusters facing upward, and almost certainly niggling your left thigh at traffic lights. But who cares about such minor grumbles? Up the pointy end is a 43mm NIX30 fork that’s sure to be reassuringly firm, but plush. The 959 didn’t really need better suspension, but it sure looks good on board.

A lithium ion battery completes the transformation, and 2.5kg weight loss.
