“My son’s coming home. That’s huge!”
Lynn Smith lives in Coogee Bay, Sydney, Australia, with husband Allan and son Liam, 20
Allan starts the day with a bike ride while I have a bit of a lie in. We open our gifts and I make bacon and egg butties. Then the boys go for a swim on the beach. We always spend Christmas day with our friends Daryl and Sharon – we’ve been friends for 20 years, since our children were small. We might pop down to the beach beforehand and just sit in the sun.
We take a few dishes with us and generally eat outside. I do a potato bake and maybe a salad. Daryl loves to cook prawns on the barbecue. No one really dresses up for Xmas – I’ll be wearing shorts, a T-shirt and flip flops. Once, Allan had been watching Jamie Oliver cooking a whole fish on the barbecue. Jamie covered the fish with salt. Allan tried it but obviously didn’t use the same type of salt as Jamie. It was a complete disaster! We ate a lot of potato salad that year…
I work as a receptionist at a medical centre and usually work half days through the holiday as we aim to stay open. This year my elder son
Aaron (22) is coming home from South Africa, where he’s worked for five years. That’s huge, so I’m going to be off to spend time with him and his girlfriend. I’ve never met her, but I can’t wait – we’ve spoken on the phone and she sounds lovely!
