Don’t let non-stick pans get too hot. They contain potentiall­y toxic PFCs (perfluorin­ates). Use a low flame and never heat an empty pan. Choose stainless steel, cast iron and ceramic titanium cookware, says Karen Ashton, co-author of The ToxicConsu­mer (Impact Publishing, Bath, £7.99).
