Poor, unlucky-in-love Rita. Her love life has had more lows than highs and her storylines never shied far from man trouble. First up was Harry Bates who Rita wasn’t actually married to but arrived on the cobbles as his common-law wife, back in 1964, along with his son, Terry. Rita experienced domestic violence with Harry and instead fell in love with Deputy Mayor, Len Fairclough, who offered her support. Rita and Len married but he was dramatically killed in a car accident, with Rita then finding out he was leading a secret life, having an affair their whole marriage. Rita married for a second time in 1992 to Ted Sullivan, but he died from a brain tumour only three months after they were married. Then were her engagements to Alec Gilroy and Colin Grimshaw, before Dennis Tanner in 2012. First he ran away for a new life with Gloria abroad, before being dumped and returning with his tail between his legs. Then he punched Norris, prompting her to immediately kick him out of her Kabin and life forever.

Rita has never had much luck on the romantic front – as Len, Dennis and Ted prove
