■ This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you can help to raise funds by buying a pink Dishmatic fillable/ dispensible washing-up sponge – the manufacturer, EasyDo, is donating £10,000 to the charity Against Breast Cancer. It’s available from most supermarkets during October at around £1.50.

■ If your doggie has had a naughty wee on your carpet, you can get rid of the smell with a solution of three parts soda water and one part clear vinegar. By using vinegar, the dog won’t now recognise the smell as “theirs” and will go elsewhere – hopefully outside!

■ If you spray your duster with your favourite air freshener, this will freshen your house at the same time as removing dust.
