From RomeoandJuliet to Hamlet, there seemed no role he couldn’t play. He even acted alongside his wife Vivien Leigh in Macbeth and AntonyandCleopatra, with both of them receiving rave reviews. He not only starred, but also directed a number of Shakespearean films, including Hamlet and HenryV. Who could forget his iconic performance as Richard III for which he got a nomination for Best Actor at the 1955 Academy Awards? Even in death Laurence is still considered one of the greatest Shakespearean actors ever and has gone on to inspire generations since.
