Newsweek International - - NEWSWEEK -

Investment in agriculture is 11 times more effective at reducing poverty than any other sector. That’s the message a group of smallholder farmers in northern Zambia want to send to the world. Carved into the very land that feeds their families, these compelling stats show that investing in agriculture and rural development is the most effective way for government leaders to boost economies, feed a growing population and achieve a world without poverty and hunger.

1 Africa has 25% of the world’s arable land, yet only 10% of the output. 2 Year-on-year, more and more people are moving away from rural communities. 3 The global population will exceed 9 billion by 2050. 4 In sub-saharan Africa, growth from agriculture is 11 times more effective at reducing extreme poverty than any other sector.1
