The Waterside Hotel

No. 1 Magazine - - SPA REVIEW -

No.1 head to the Ayrshire coast to check out one of the newest hotels on the block...

Here at No.1, we thought we’d sampled every hotel there was to try on the Ayrshire coast, but somehow we’d managed to miss the Waterside Hotel in West Kilbride. The reason we’re surprised that we hadn’t spotted it, is because the building is so distinctive and completely different to any other hotels in the area. So we set off one very sunny Saturday afternoon to find out more. It turns out that whilst the bar and restaurant opened after a huge and costly overhaul in 2011, the hotel actually only opened it’s doors in May 2015. The entire building; restaurant, bar and hotel is now decked out in the most chic nautical style you’ll see this side of Cape Cod. As mentioned, the day we arrived at the hotel we got very lucky with the weather, it was a gloriously sunny day and that only made the views the Waterside enjoys all the more stunning. Indeed, the hotel is set right on the beach looking out over the water with views of Arran. After checking in quickly, we were keen to get out and explore. So we had a good wander along the nearby beach to build an appetite for dinner – we’d been assured by a few of the locals that day that the food would be outstanding. But first it was time to head up to our room, one of 23 that the hotel has, for a quick freshen up. The room was spotless and modern, as you would expect of a hotel that has only been open a couple of months. The bathroom is luxe and the view, once again, is beautiful. Back down at the restaurant, we were met with a bustling and lively Saturday night atmosphere, with families and couples alike, all tucking into dinner in the cool, marine-inspired surroundings. We lapped up a three-course meal, which included the freshest fish and chips we’d tasted in a while and giant succulent scallops served

on the shell, as well as a good couple of cocktails, an Eton mess and a melt in the middle chocolate pudding... You could have rolled us out of there! So, with full bellies, we sat outside in the garden overlooking the water with another drink in an attempt to digest. On the night we were there, we saw many a dapper gent and glammed up lady heading into the other end of the building which we later found out was The Kyle Suite, the new state of the art wedding, conference and banqueting facility. That evening a wedding was taking place. It’s easy to see why this venue would be such a draw, with the gorgeous scenery and the amazing food! After sitting outside with drinks until the sun was nearly down, it was time to retire back to our room, convinced that the country air would knock us out in an instant – and that it did! After our visit it was easy to see why the company who bought the restaurant, invested so much to turn it into a hotel, it’s going to be a huge success.
