Since be­ing brought to the UK in 2001 by San­dra Vaughan, the com­pany’s Global Beauty Con­sul­tant, Fake Bake has firmly es­tab­lished it­self as the tan­ning brand of choice by celebri­ties, beauty ed­i­tors and a strong base of loyal cus­tomers too, but the story doesn’t stop there. No pun in­tended but Fake Bake has de­vel­oped, bring­ing more than just top tan­ning prod­ucts with the launch of Fake Bake Beauty at Home. San­dra says, “Fake Bake Beauty at Home is a com­pletely new con­cept for us. I wanted to be able to pro­vide oth­ers with a busi­ness op­por­tu­nity sim­i­lar to what Fake Bake pro­vided me.” San­dra en­listed the help of top beauty ex­pert, Craig-alexan­der Wil­son, to help make this dream a re­al­ity. With a wealth of ex­pe­ri­ence in the di­rect sell­ing industry, as well as prod­uct de­vel­op­ment, Craig was tasked with cre­at­ing a fully re­alised con­cept for the new ven­ture.

We caught up with the cre­ators to find out more...

What made you go down this route? San­dra: As a work­ing mum my­self I know how dif­fi­cult it can be to find a happy bal­ance be­tween work and home life. I have so many friends who have had chil­dren and strug­gled to find a fun and flex­i­ble way to work. It got me think­ing, what other com­pany em­ploys some­one who picks and chooses their days and hours? No­body re­ally!

What was the first thing you did in the project? Craig: We wanted to cre­ate some­thing spe­cial and ex­clu­sive, in ad­di­tion to a suc­cess­ful tan­ning range. We wanted a range of prod­ucts that would not only fit with the brand but stand up in their own right and be af­ford­able. First thing was to work from our prod­uct mis­sion, “Great prod­ucts don’t have to be se­ri­ous, just se­ri­ously great”. San­dra: With Fake Bake hav­ing their own lab in the States and ac­cess to the best tech­nol­ogy and ma­te­ri­als, we planned a trip to look at what we could cre­ate. Skin D-luxe, our skin­care range and Dolcé Dreams, our Bath & Body Col­lec­tion were de­vel­oped first and took over a year to com­plete, mak­ing sure the for­mu­la­tions were per­fect. I’m a per­sonal fan of the Skin D-luxe Dream Skin Cleans­ing Melt, it’s an amaz­ing cleans­ing balm that nour­ishes and re­news skin. Craig: It goes with­out say­ing I love make-up, so cre­at­ing Scream & Pout, our make-up line was great fun. Our Blur­fec­tion Smooth & Il­lu­mi­nate Primer and Won­der­wear Spe­cial Af­fect Foundation have al­ready be­come best­sellers. I wanted some­thing that re­ally per­formed and did every­thing it says it would on the tube! We have had some great press and feed­back.

What are your fu­ture plans? San­dra: We want to be able to roll out this op­por­tu­nity to ev­ery­one and with over 250 con­sul­tants up and down the coun­try, we are grow­ing by the minute. It’s such a per­sonal busi­ness that no mat­ter what age you are, how much ex­pe­ri­ence

you do or don’t have or where you live in the UK, this is avail­able to you. The sky is the limit and this is just the be­gin­ning. Craig: As well as skin­care, make-up, bath and body, and the award-win­ning tan­ning range, we have just launched our brand new home fra­grance range, Cash­mere Me. We have plans for lots more in­no­va­tive prod­ucts for the fu­ture too and our Christ­mas range, Glit­ter­bomb, is not to be missed.

What would you say this new ven­ture has cre­ated? Craig: It al­lows any­one to shop with us, party with us and of course work with us. By host­ing a party you can shop for free. Stay­ing in is the new go­ing out and get­ting the girls round is a fun way to shop. San­dra: What it also does is it al­lows any­one a com­plete busi­ness start up, that is low cost and zero risk.
