Hotel Review

No.1 enjoyed five star relaxation at the majestic 19th century hotel

No. 1 Magazine - - CONTENTS -

On a beautifully crisp winter’s morning we made our way to Mar Hall, a mere 20 minutes from the centre of Glasgow, the hotel is perched at the side of the River Clyde. A splendid sight, the exterior is reminiscent of a bygone era. The interior is no less magnificent, the Grand Hall has sky-high ceilings, heavyweight oak doors and colossal crystal chandeliers, the hall is complete with the original fireplaces and antique tapestries. As the car wound its way up the sweeping driveway, we instantly felt transported to another world, a quiet haven, deep in the countryside. After checking in we decided to unwind and take in our surroundings whilst indulging in afternoon tea. Scrumptious sandwiches, rich crumbly scones, deliciously decadent chocolatey bites and moreish lemon drizzle cake were all devoured in next to no time. We decided to take a stroll round the grounds in attempt to walk off some of the afternoon’s excess. Our home for the evening was a junior suite, an enormous and beautiful room, with jaw dropping aspects over the River Clyde and the Kilpatrick Hills. The décor was a blended concoction of contemporary meets traditional. Kitted out with a marble fireplace, thick tasselled curtains, a super huge bed complete with the finest Egyptian cotton, and toiletries by Arran Aromatics. After a quick cat nap and freshen up it was time for dinner. Having eaten in the hotel before, we decided to try out the slightly more casual Italian restaurant Il Posto, which prides itself on offering simple dishes that showcase the quality of the ingredients. We started with bruschetta, which was loaded with beautifully ripe marinated tomatoes, simple but utterly delectable. Next up was the weekend special, a half lobster accompanied by clams, mussels and prawns with a lobster bisque and garlic bread to soak up the juices. Delicious and flavoursome, the seafood was cooked to perfection. Suitably stuffed we decided to split the Italian cheese board, which was served with chutney and oatcakes. We finished off with a quick drink in the Great Hall to round off the perfect day. The next morning we woke, truly rested after the most peaceful of slumbers. A quick bite of breakfast and it was time to hit the spa to complete our relaxation marathon. An invigorating and indulgent full body massage later, we were suitably relaxed and ready to face the real world again. I can say with confidence that whether you are contemplating a romantic weekend away with your other half, or a spa break with friends, be rest assured that Mar Hall is the epitome of five star luxury, guaranteed to tick every box.

We instantly felt transported to another world, a quiet haven, deep in the countryside.
