ou can feel your stresses away as you travel up the tree-lined drive­way to Melville Cas­tle. Be­fore you are even in­side the cas­tle, it bowls you over with its mag­nif­i­cent tur­reted ex­te­rior – de­scribed as be­ing of “out­stand­ing ar­chi­tec­tural and his­toric sig­nif­i­cance”. This ini­tial feel­ing of re­lax­ation con­tin­ues as you step in­side the 18th cen­tury cas­tle’s wel­com­ing en­trance where a roar­ing fire and a com­fort­ing aroma greet you. A grand car­peted stair­case dom­i­nates the hall­way, but I opt to take the lift to my room on the sec­ond floor.

When I swing the door open of my su­pe­rior dou­ble room (one of 33 bed­rooms), its sheer size and gor­geous four-poster bed ( pic­tured below) over­whelm me.
