Stress Free Christmas Survival Guide
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so Andy Williams says, but it is also the most stressful! In fact, according to the Stress Management Society, Christmas is more stressful than a burglary for one in 20 people in the UK. Don’t be one of them. Instead, read No.1’ s Christmas Survival guide, which has plenty of tips to beat stress at the notoriously frantic time of year.
Don’t expect too much
We often place too much pressure on ourselves to make this Christmas the ‘best ever’ for not just us, but for our children and our family. It’s worth remembering that you are responsible for your own happiness, and no one else’s. Don’t build it up with great expectations, as it causes stress. Just try to enjoy every moment of this Christmas for what it is, and don’t compare it to last year.
Don’t ‘do it yourself’
DIY is stressful at any time of year, so why do we pile on the pressure by aiming to do it before Christmas? Instead, scrap the scraping! Will it really matter if the kitchen isn’t newly-painted before turkey is served? Avoid rushing home improvement jobs, they do not NEED to be done on top of everything else. The only thing you should be decorating is the Christmas cake!
Being host with the most
Having people staying in your home can cause upheaval, especially at this time of year. Don’t worry about them though – all they really need is a seat at the dinner table and somewhere to sleep. Just focus on being a good host and being polite. Make them feel welcome and keep calm. Other relative-survival tips include: don’t drink too much, walk away if things get heated, and remember, they will go home, eventually!
Wear it well
What to wear during the party season can cause us all sorts of stress as we wonder how on earth we can afford a new outfit for every event, function, party and night out. However, help is at hand as No.1 has trawled the high street, so you don’t have to, sourcing the best and mostaffordable styles for the season. See our fashion edit to find an outfit to suit you.
