‘I have an eclectic interior style – I mix and match from different eras’
One of my favourite rooms is my large lounge, I absolutely love its high ceiling and original fireplace.
It has a real cosy feel to it and I often fall asleep in here with all its warmth. The room I am happiest with in terms of decor is the one I call my thistle bedroom ( pictured left). We used Timorous Beasties wall coverings and fabrics which I love and it houses a beautiful big bed from the company called And So To Bed. It has a nice Scottish feel to the room with its deep purples and Scottish accents and features. I think in total, we spent £16,000 just on this room!
I love original art, most of my artwork throughout the house is original.
As I’ve said, I like to be different, so bespoke pieces are important to me. I designed my own dining chairs which were made in Battersea, they were most definitely my splurge at £330 a chair! I also have a lot of my cushions made especially for me, because I am a cushion girl! I couldn’t live without my cushions, even my 92-year-old mum is into her cushions now and loves her Anta cushions on her bed.
I have a real passion for interior design so have loved doing all the refurbishments myself.
If I was to give anyone advice in undertaking anything like I have, it would be: don’t rush into it; use mood boards to put your ideas down; then set a budget and shop around.
I never imagined I would ever live in a house like this.
Whilst growing up, my dad was a minister, and we lived all over the country, with very little money. My parents sacrificed a lot for us, so I like to give back to them, which was one of the reasons we built them a self-contained annexe back in 2004, and it’s another reason I want to sell this place.
Although the house is filled with lots of happy memories and love, it’s just too big for me to manage alone.
Plus, I want to be able to give my parents lots more of my time. I am already looking forward to my next project – a smaller, more manageable guest house where my parents can live with me too.
