Spa Review: Atholl Palace ............................

No. 1 Magazine - - SCOTLAND'S NO.1 -

Set in stunning grounds surrounded by views of Pitlochry, Atholl Palace is a majestic sight. And nestled in the iconic building is the Lavender spa – which was originally a Victorian health hydro and which, even today, still utilises the power of the natural spring waters from Ben-y-vrackie. The spa’s signature treatment is the Lavender Lullaby – and we can see why. At 90 minutes, it’s thoroughly luxurious and you really are pampered head-to-toe. The treatment begins with the face being double cleansed and then an exfoliating peel with papaya is applied and eyepads popped on. Whilst that gets to work on the face, a scrub is worked into the front of the body to really slough away dead skin. Next the peel is removed from the face, and the scrub is then applied to the back. At this point, a quick shower is needed to remove the scrub before a mask is applied to the face and you can just lay back and relax whilst a bolus – commonly used in Thai massage – is filled with lavender and marine sea salt heated in a steamer. It is then rolled and pressed over the body. Next up is a full body massage and the treatment is finished with the face mask being removed and an eye cream applied. Wow – that is the dream way to spend an hour and a half! You can then head to the restaurant and enjoy some afternoon tea if you really want to have the ultimate decadent afternoon.
