Light facial gels for hydrating creams

As autumn in Scotland very quickly descends into rain, wind and sometimes, let’s be honest, even snow, you’ve got to think about weatherproofing your face now. Harsh outdoor conditions give your skin a battering and then inside the central heating strips it of even more moisture. So if you want your skin to look and feel good, you have to swap out your lighter summer formulations and bring in the big guns. I’ve found this one by Kiehl’s is a great all-rounder for the autumn/winter months because it gets to work continuously on your skin for 24 hours after application.

Gloss for matte

I’ve already mentioned that the windy weather is on it’s way back and is about to unfortunately settle over Scotland for the next five/six months, so lipgloss is going to be more hassle than it’s worth (you will end up with half your hair stuck to your lips). So ditch the shine and embrace matte lips. NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are such good value and last for hours – so why not try one of the shades below?

Peach blush for dusky rose

This one is optional – if you’ve found a fresh, peachy blush that you just adore, then by all means stick with it. But if you’re up for some experimentation and would love to see how a cooler tone that’s more suited to the season would look, give a dusky rose shade a go. It’s similar to peach in the sense that in the spectrum of the dusky rose shades there’s a tone to suit everyone. Max Factor Creme Puff Blush is ideal because they have a selection of pinky tones in a sheer but build-able formulation, plus they’re extremely wearable and flattering. See below for my suggestions of the best shade for your skin tone:

Bronze eyes for shades of red

Don’t panic – wearing shadows with reddish undertones on the eyes is far less scary than it sounds. Deep cranberry is gorgeous on all eye shades and skin tones, as are hints of claret, rust and plummy purples. Just think of deep reds as richer versions of your usual brown or grey shades. Take a look below for more proof of how gorgeous these tones look...
