Rosalind Morrison talks about: The Cows by Dawn O’porter, published by Harper Collins, £14.99

No. 1 Magazine - - INTERIORS & LIFESTYLE -

The Cows by Dawn O’porter tells the story of three women who on the face of it seem confident and assured in their daily lives but, like all of us, have their own insecurities kept hidden to the outside world. When one truly mortifying, not so innocent act, throws them all together it shows us that by facing our fears we can overcome just about anything. This is a real page turner, as you desperately want to know what is going to happen to them next. It made me think about different aspects of my own life, making me laugh and cry as I related to each of the characters and the issues they faced. O’porter’s storytelling is like talking with a friend who makes you feel that you’re not a weirdo but it’s also okay if you are. If I have one criticism it’s that some of the themes could have been explored more if only to satisfy my own thirst for knowledge about how to deal with the subjects raised. Overall it was thoroughly enjoyable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to all my girlfriends. The lesson being ‘Don’t follow the herd’.
