Teacher and pupils celebrate

YS­GOL Eirias head of lan­guages fac­ulty Bev­er­ley Gor­don has won the Ger­man Teacher of the Year award for set­ting stan­dards in ex­cel­lence in the teach­ing of Ger­man as a for­eign lan­guage, beat­ing a record num­ber of en­tries from across the coun­try.

Bev­er­ley was crowned Ger­man Teacher of the Year at a cham­pagne re­cep­tion at Cardiff City Hall, re­ceiv­ing her award from Ger­man Am­bas­sador Dr Peter Am­mon in front of Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion and Skills Huw Lewis.

Pupils Ella Dow­ber and Erica Wil­liams have also been cel­e­brat­ing af­ter tak­ing part in a Na­tional Spell­ing Bee French and Ger­man com­pe­ti­tion. The pair had to learn 200 words and how to spell them us­ing the French and Ger­man al­pha­bets.

Ella com­peted in the French com­pe­ti­tion and Erica came sec­ond in the Ger­man.
