LIVER­POOL Com­pe­ti­tion Di­vi­sion One cham­pi­ons Col­wyn Bay rounded off a dou­ble-win­ning sea­son with a rare de­feat.

Visi­tors New­ton-le-Wil­lows ran out nar­row win­ners by two wick­ets at Pen­rhyn Av­enue.

Bay were in­vited to bat and posted 184 all out off 42.3 overs.

Num­ber seven bats­man Har­ri­son Jones en­sured the hosts were able to set a pre­sentable to­tal by ham­mer­ing 76 off 79 balls, in­clud­ing five sixes and five fours.

Bay were 38-5 at one point be­fore Jones and Mike Lit­tler (39) added 94 for the sixth wicket.

Tahir Maq­sood was the bowl­ing hero for New­ton, pick­ing up 6-35.

In re­ply, the visi­tors made it to 185-8 from 54.3 overs to seal a 20-7 points tri­umph.

Ryan Holtby took 4-54 and Paul Jenk­ins 3-60 for the hosts, who were with­out chief strike bowler Sa­mad Fal­lah.

Bay still won the ti­tle by a mas­sive 101 points.

Col­wyn Bay sec­onds lost their fi­nal 2nd XV Di­vi­sion One match at New­ton-le-Wil­lows by a sin­gle wicket.

Bay were all out for 103 and the hosts scraped it on 104-9, Jamie Moor­house 3-12 and James Jones 3-22.
