Rare defeat for the champs
LIVERPOOL Competition Division One champions Colwyn Bay rounded off a double-winning season with a rare defeat.
Visitors Newton-le-Willows ran out narrow winners by two wickets at Penrhyn Avenue.
Bay were invited to bat and posted 184 all out off 42.3 overs.
Number seven batsman Harrison Jones ensured the hosts were able to set a presentable total by hammering 76 off 79 balls, including five sixes and five fours.
Bay were 38-5 at one point before Jones and Mike Littler (39) added 94 for the sixth wicket.
Tahir Maqsood was the bowling hero for Newton, picking up 6-35.
In reply, the visitors made it to 185-8 from 54.3 overs to seal a 20-7 points triumph.
Ryan Holtby took 4-54 and Paul Jenkins 3-60 for the hosts, who were without chief strike bowler Samad Fallah.
Bay still won the title by a massive 101 points.
Colwyn Bay seconds lost their final 2nd XV Division One match at Newton-le-Willows by a single wicket.
Bay were all out for 103 and the hosts scraped it on 104-9, Jamie Moorhouse 3-12 and James Jones 3-22.
