Hat-trick Pat stars in a home Bay whitewash
PAT ATKINSON ran in three tries as Colwyn Bay rattled up a 55-0 bonus-point win over visitors Wrexham in Division Two North.
In the sixth minute fly-half Atkinson broke through the away defence at pace to ground and added the conversion.
Atkinson scored the second try and notched more extras after fine forward play by hooker Dewi Hughes and open-side John Astbury.
The Wrexham forwards gained some momentum but lost the ball after a fine tackle by Krystn Yeomans. Yeomans then recycled the ball with speed and released the backs, with left wing Connah Harding scoring by the corner flag, making it 19-0 at half time.
The second half saw the home team up the tempo, forwards and backs working well.
Bay camped in Wrexham’s half but play was disrupted due to a serious leg injury to home scrum-half Barry Cavetto.
The referee decided to move the game onto pitch two and here Bay really showed what potential there is within the squad.
A fine solo try by Roman Reboul, with his first touch of the match, started the try bonanza, Atkinson converting.
Captain Ben Evans and full-back Dan Parry added tries, the boot of Atkinson improving one. Atkinson completed a hat-trick, Jason Harding and Adam Lowndes also crossing.
