It was the week that... Holly’s show Play To The Whistle was axed
The telly fave was dealt a tough blow after ratings fell
Holly Willoughby was served a double dose of work blues last week: not only was she readjusting to early mornings and a busy schedule as she returned to This Morning after an extended summer break, but it was also announced her ITV comedy entertainment show Play To The Whistle had been axed after three series.
Holly, 36, had hosted the sports-themed programme since its debut in 2015 and it regularly featured team captains including Bradley Walsh and Frank Lampard. But even this top line-up wasn’t enough to boost ratings. It’s thought the show – which is produced by Holly’s husband Dan Baldwin – could return for one-off editions to tie in with sporting events such as next year’s football World Cup.
Until then, fans will be delighted to see Holly keep her ongoing commitments at ITV, which also includes presenting Dancing On
Ice alongside Phillip Schofield.
