1 Pick a power couple

Charles and Camilla, Kim and Kanye, Bert and Ernie. Who doesn’t want to be someone else for a bit between the sheets? ‘Sex shouldn’t feel like reality,’ says sexpert Emma Kenny from Killing Kittens (killingkittens. com). ‘It should feel transfixing, delicious, naughty, loving, alive and desirable.’ So, go on, you’ll get bonus points for using your imagination. It’s just like doing GCSE drama all over again.

2 Decisions, decisions

Does he tire easily helping you pick a work skirt in Zara, but turns into Gok Wan when it comes to choosing outfits for role play? Don’t fret. He still wants the ‘everyday’ you. ‘If he wants you in a costume every time and you’re OK with that, then go ahead,’ reassures Emma. ‘He knows it is you beneath the costume.’ **Quickly calls charity shop to ask for the sexy cowgirl outfit donation back**

3 Stick and twist

Role play should definitely be embraced like an all-you-caneat buffet. Mix it up and always get seconds. ‘Everyone has a go-to fantasy and often the anticipation of knowing exactly what is going to happen is tantalizing,’ says Emma. ‘That said, sex should be evolving and that means creating lots of fantasy role plays.’

4 Don’t stop believing

If you’re making the effort then you want an Oscarwinning orgasm at the end, right? So, channel Robert De Niro and go method. ‘From accents to thigh-high boots, the more you work at it, the better it feels,’ says Emma. ‘I get my clients to go out separately and meet up as the characters they are playing. While you may have to keep a coat over the costume, the experience is more evocative.’

5 Get down and dusty

We’ve all been there. You spend three hours painting your body Papa Smurf blue for a fancy-dress party, while the host wears an LBD and cute bunny ears. Turns out, simple things are powerful. ‘Props such as a feather duster can add to play, but whether you go the whole caboodle is down to confidence. For many men, simply seeing you dressed in a provocative outfit will suffice.’ Feather duster? We’re sure Nana has one of those…
