It Was The Week That…
David Beckham was blasted last week for avoiding a speeding charge. The 43-year-old enlisted the help of Nick Freeman, dubbed ‘Mr Loophole’, after he was caught driving at 59mph in a 40mph zone in London.
The star – who is worth £350 million – accepted that he’d been speeding, but it was decided that he wouldn’t face action because his lawyer argued that the ticket arrived one day after the statutory 14-day limit.
Campaigners have since slammed the retired footballer, with director of campaigns at Brake, Joshua Harris, saying the outcome is ‘disappointing’.
‘It is hugely disappointing to see a role model like
David Beckham shirking his responsibility and getting off a speeding prosecution on a mere technicality,’ he said.
And as if getting off scot-free wasn’t enough, David didn’t even turn up to court, instead posting an Instagram selfie moaning about ‘London Traffic’.
