Nuneaton News Bronze stag part of stock stolen from garden centre

Nuneaton Telegraph - - FRONT PAGE -

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of stock, including a five-foot-tall bronze stag, has been stolen from the area’s biggest garden centre.

Thieves made off with the statue, along with a collection of Alice In Wonderland ornaments and water features, worth a total of £3,000.

Dobbies, in Mancetter, near Atherstone, is now offering a hamper to anyone who comes forward with information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

The garden centre, which is popular with families from Nuneaton and the surrounding areas, has a large stock of ornaments at its store in Nuneaton Road.

But the stolen stag, worth £700 just on its own, has left a gaping hole in the display.

The ornaments were stolen some time between 6pm on Wednesday, February 22, and 7am the next day.

Police and garden centre bosses are now looking for information to track down the thieves, who must have needed a large vehicle to transport the haul away.

Richard Bull, horticultural manager at Dobbies, said: “It is incredibly sad that our bronze stag along with various other items have been stolen from our store. We are really keen to retrieve these garden ornaments, especially the stag as it was such a prominent feature in our outdoor display area.

“Therefore we are offering a hamper full of goodies to anyone who has any leads which lead to an arrest.”

It isn’t the first time a sculpture like this has been targeted by garden centre thieves.

A 300kg stag was stolen from a garden centre in Stapleton near Hinckley in December and a four-foot tall deer statue was stolen from a Nottinghamshire garden in November.

Anyone with information about what happened can call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
