Star at launch night for new city gay club
A NEW gay club is set to open at The Bull Yard in Coventry city centre next month.
The club will be called The Yard and will occupy the former Italian Coffee Shop building, opposite the Litten Tree Pub.
Bosses had previously been tightlipped on the venue’s name and location, but the building is now almost ready to open its doors after undergoing a £125,000 refurbishment.
A launch night for the new club is planned for June 9 with actor Kieron Richardson, who played Ste Hay in Hollyoaks, set to attend.
It will be only the second in the city and will come 20 years after the club’s first gay bar, Rainbows, in Short Street, opened its doors to the public in 1997.
One of the owners told the Telegraph: “The two floors have been completely redesigned to offer something totally unique for Coventry.
“The ground floor now features bespoke metal, wood and lighting installations combined with luxurious furnishings to create the ultimate chic industrial environment whilst the upstairs has been glamorously restyled and fitted with one of the best sound systems currently on the market – ready to host our weekly cabaret and club nights.
“We’ve also created two VIP areas – a luxury fizz booth and a gin garden – offering the ideal space for a party.
“Our main launch night is on June 9 and we have some special guests that weekend, including Kieron Richardson from Hollyoaks who will be officially performing the opening on the Friday.”
The opening date is the day before Coventry Pride 2017, which will be centred around University Square, opposite Coventry Cathedral, with events taking place across the city.
