IT’S been a barrel of laughs for Penella Mellor since she quit her job as a nurse for a life in the limelight.

The 33-year-old is pursing her dream of becoming a stand-up comedian and is going from strength to strength.

She is now preparing to perform in front of her biggest audience yet at Manchester’sDancehouse on October 17.

Penella, of Fitton Hill, said: “I’ve had gigs all over the place so it’s nice to be back performing locally.

“I didn’t really think about how it will all go. If you think too far ahead it can make your head fall off but I can’t complain at all.

“The Dancehouse is my biggest show to date and it’s going to be filmed as well so I’m telling everyone to dress smart.

“It’s great that some of my local fans will become part of my show reel.”

Penella left her day job as a community mental health nurse back in April and went on to perform at Jason Manford’s Comedy Club. She also scooped Nando’s New Comedian of the Year and the new act gong at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket.

She narrowly missed out on the Amused Moose Laugh Off competition at the Edinburgh Fringe but did manage to scoop a sponsorship with Ruby Shoo who make her trademark red shoes.

She said: “I wasn’t wearing my signature shoes at Edinburgh and didn’t win the competition so I’m going to go back to wearing them from now on.”
