All creatures great and small invited to carol service
ALL creatures great and small are invited to get into the festive spirit with the annual Horseman’s Carol Service.
Each year riders and their steeds, families and their pets gather at the Friezland Arena for a special service.
Many of the animals are dressed up for the occasion and gives owners the chance to share the celebrations with their furry friends.
This year’s carol service is set to take place this Saturday, weather permitting.
One of the organisers Minda Wigley, of the Frie- zland User Group, said: “The Horseman’s Carol Service has been taking place for over a decade.
“It’s very unusual and something that people can attend with their favourite animals.
“People are so close to their horses and dogs as they’re with them every day so to be able to bring them for a blessing is something very special.
“It’s the perfect way to have your pets involved in the festivities.
“People go to so much trouble to dress up their horses and dogs and to see everyone together really does bring a lump to your throat.”
People are asked to gather at the arena, on Manchester Road, Greenfield, at 11am for an 11.30am start.
The service will be led by Father Christopher Halliday of Friezland Church.
The carols will be accompanied by choristers from the church led by choir master Charles Whitehead.
There will be minced pies, mulled wine and carrots for the horses afterwards.
Admission is £2 on the day with all proceeds going to the upkeep of the arena.
